Duties and Responsibilities
This position provides staff support and assistance to the Special Assistant to the Executive Director relating to private sector unit governance and contract negotiations.  This position independently performs assignments of a routine to complex nature in providing general services to members of HGEA/AFSCME.  The candidate must have a working knowledge of the NLRA, NLRB, and OLMS relative to the representation of Union members.  The candidate should also be able to demonstrate a high level of experience and success in contract enforcement, grievance handling, arbitration handling, ULP filings, member recruitment/organizing, education and training and other membership services.  Experience in a healthcare environment preferred.

Minimum Qualifications
The candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; have a minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in handling complaints and resolving problems directly with employees/union members; and have work experience and knowledge of Collective Bargaining Laws, Union principles, best practices, and labor relations or relevant work experiences will be considered.  
The candidate must have effective verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated experience in effectively speaking/communicating complex issues before small and large groups.  Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs are required.  Must have a valid Hawaii driver’s license and a reliable personal vehicle to use for work.
