Congratulations on being selected as a delegate to the 24th Biennial HGEA General Assembly on September 5-8, 2018 at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel on the island of Oahu.

The General Assembly officially convenes in the morning on Thursday, September 6.
Pre-convention meetings and events take place on Wednesday, September 5. The banquet will be held on the evening of Friday, September 7 and the convention ends the morning of Saturday, September 8.

This convention provides our leaders statewide with an opportunity to learn, discuss issues facing our union, and to make decisions that will affect all HGEA members. It will be a time for hard work and fellowship as we work together to keep our union strong.

Delegate registration

All delegates must register by 4:30 p.m., Friday, August 3, 2018.

The following information will help you plan for the convention.


The proposed resolutions that will be considered at the convention, committee reports, and tentative agenda will be distributed to all delegates or their bargaining unit island divisions on their behalf in early August.


Check-in for the General Assembly will be on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 and check-out is on Saturday, September 8, 2018. State Board Directors and delegates on unit boards and convention committees that will be meeting prior to the start of the General Assembly are scheduled to arrive at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in the morning or mid-day on Wednesday, September 5.

We expect the majority of the delegates to arrive at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel in the afternoon or early evening on Wednesday, September 5, 2018.

HGEA will pay for rooms (based on double occupancy) and meals provided according to the convention schedule. Those wishing to stay in a single room or extend their stay may do so subject to availability and at an additional cost.

Delegates may indicate their roommate preference when they register, however, please keep in mind that roommate requests may not be honored if both delegates do not have the same check-in and check-out dates.

Delegates and guests will be responsible for all incidental charges (room service, phone calls and other hotel services) and may be asked to provide a credit card for that purpose.


  • Flight information
    Flights to and from Oahu for most of the neighbor island delegates will be on Wednesday, September 5 and in the morning through mid-day on Saturday, September 8, 2018. There are limited seats on flights to and from each neighbor island; therefore, we strongly encourage you to keep your schedule open and flexible on those days, as your flights will be reserved for you.
    After you complete your online registration, HGEA will send you your specific flight information along with contact information if any changes need to be made.

  • Airline Check-In Luggage:
    Upon arrival on Oahu, you must claim any checked-in bags at the Hawaiian Airlines baggage claim area and take it to the bus for transport to the hotel. The specific location of the bus transportation at the airport and information regarding the handling of luggage at the hotel will be shared when finalized.

    REMINDER: Please make sure your luggage is tagged or labeled with your first and last name to minimize any chance your luggage will be lost or misplaced.

  • Ground Transportation:
    Buses will be available for neighbor island delegates traveling from the airport to the hotel on Wednesday, September 5 and from the hotel to the airport on Saturday, September 8 on flights scheduled by HGEA.

    If you request an early check-out and return flight on Friday, September 7, 2018, we will provide ground transportation to the airport after the convention adjourns.

  • Hotel Parking:
    Self-parking at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel is available at $35 plus tax per vehicle per day for registered guests. Valet parking is $45 plus tax per vehicle per day.

Please attend all General Assembly functions in business casual dress or attire designated by your respective bargaining units. While the site of this year’s convention isn’t as big and expansive as locations in previous years, comfortable footwear is always highly recommended.
